Can’t stop, won’t stop: Protesters in Ferguson rally again, seeking justice for Mike Brown. More than a month and a half after his death, his killer, Darren Wilson, is still a free man. (Pt 2)

Because it wouldn’t be a protest in Ferguson without fuckery from the police. A driver plowed his car through protesters, grazing several and running over a young boys foot. Beyond taking several hours to transport the boy to the hospital, they took even longer to arrest the motorist. Who did they not wait long to arrest? Two of the protesters who had been documenting the altercation for the world to see. If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention. #staywoke #farfromover #nojusticenopeace

‘THE WICKED & THE DIVINE’

Every 90 years or so, eleven gods incarnate in the bodies of the young. They are charismatic and brilliant. They stand before crowds, speak in tongues, and send them into rapture. They’re rumoured to perform secretive miracles. They save people’s lives, either metaphorically or literally. They are loved. They are hated. They are brilliant. Within two years, they’re dead. That’s our cast. People with enormous gifts who only get to be on this Earth for a scant few years. The story joins with the majority of the gods returned to Earth – from Baal to Sekhmet, from Minerva to The Morrigan. Our lead, Laura, is a devotee. She loves them. She loves all of them. They make her feel alive like nothing else. Laura wants more. She’s not happy with being a fan. She wants to be one of them, even if it comes with that cost. And then she meets Lucifer. Lucifer has a certain problem. They help each other out. Basically, it’s a superhero comic for anyone who loves Bowie as much as Batman.

Remember Wendy Davis?

image

You know, the badass democrat who fillibustered for 11 hours straight to conserve women’s rights in Texas?

image

Well, this wonderful and amazing woman has announced her campaign for Texas governor!

image

Let’s show her some goddamn support!

Her opponent, Greg Abbott, is all about “traditional values.”

What fucking good have “traditional values” ever done for anyone?

Not a goddamn thing, that’s what. Vote for Wendy Davis.

This is a picture of three people from the Ferguson city commission.
Remember the story of how Ferguson police beat a man and then charged him with bleeding on their uniforms?
See that woman in the picture?
She was one of the cops who beat him.
Seriously what the fuck.
If you weren’t following #Ferguson on Twitter last night, you missed out. The city commission had a meeting where they tried to tell the people they couldn’t talk, but were eventually shouted down. So the All-White-Except-One city council sat there, gave people three minutes to speak, and said nothing, responded to nothing, and did nothing.
A couple of highlights:

A man arrested for peacefully protesting spoke up and said “I’ve done more jail time than Darren Wilson.”

“If Darren Wilson doesn’t get justice, you might as well bring back the army, because it’s going to be chaos,” said another.

ESPN E60 reportedly had a story about a football player from Ferguson who reported a harassment incident with Darren Wilson a week before Mike Brown. (Looked for more reports of this today and don’t see any. Sent a few messages to journalists who were covering Ferguson.)

Several people talked about how the “justice” system (more like “jüstice” system) in Ferguson routinely harasses and exploits people.

The whole thing seemed very organized, with people telling the council (paraphrased): “You’ve done nothing for us, and that’s why you’ve got a murder on your hands. Now we’re coming for you [meaning the various seats on the council]” with one woman in particular saying to the woman pictured above, “We’re coming for your seat first.”

This:

“I have 3 minutes to tell you I am ashamed of every single one of you.”

California Bans 'Gay Panic' Defense →

queenerdloser:

invisiblelad:

You can no longer wiggle out of a murder charge in California by saying you were frightened by a scary lesbian.

Current California law allows a murder charge to be reduced to manslaughter if the killing happened in the heat of passion - the so-called “panic defense”. Defendants charged with murdering members of the LGBT community have been able to claim they acted in a “moment of passion” upon discovering the victim was LGBT, and therefor their crime met the requirements for a reduced charge of manslaughter. The bill that passed the Assembly this week will bar defendants from using their victim’s gender or sexual orientation to support a panic defense. An identical bill passed the state senate in May.

Democratic Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla (right) sponsored the bill, which passed on a 50-10 vote. Ms. Bonilla told reportersthat such defenses legitimize violence against LGBT people.

Though The American Bar Association advocates curtailing the use of the “gay panic” defense, California is the first state to ban using the “heat of passion” defense because the victim was LGBT.

The bill now heads for Governor Jerry Brown’s desk for his signature.

I’ve been so busy lately I forgot to share this.

Why has it taken this long to ban though??? Like really?

i’m in fuckin awe that this is actually not fully banned in every fuckin state what the fuck

IT IS GETTING BETTER

When I first read about this woman’s plan I thought it was a strong idea but I was worried that it was a little bit much for one person, no matter how dedicated, to keep it up for too long, especially since she has, you know, college to commit to. I never thought about how, if other people helped her carry her burden, I never thought about how much it would look like pallbearers with a coffin. Which is simply one of the strongest visual symbols one can use to disturb people in the western world.

#faith in humanity lost and restored in a constant cycle of amazement at the condition of life
